Get Involved
Countryside Lake runs on its members. The Board, the committees, and nearly every event on the calendar are the work of neighbors who volunteered their time. Whether you have a few hours a year or a few hours a month, there is a place for you.
🙋
We are actively looking for two things right now
Members willing to serve on the Board of Directors, and members willing to organize social events for the community. Both are described below.

🏛️
Serve on the Board of Directors
We are seeking candidates now. The Board sets Association policy, manages the budget and assessments, oversees the lake and common areas, and represents members' interests with the township and outside agencies. We have an immediate opening for an interim appointment through March of 2027 and are looking for members who have good judgement and are doers. At present, we need assistance with managing the common areas. Elections are held in March and terms are either two or three years. Board experience is not required. What matters is a willingness to show up, contribute, ask questions, and act in the community's interest. If you are curious about what the role actually involves, we are glad to talk with no obligation. Click on the Contact Us button if you are interested. We can arrange for you to talk to a couple of board members if you would like to better understand what is involved.

Organize a social event
We are looking for members to lead events — and the Board funds them. Each year the Board approves a budget for members who want to host events open to the whole membership. Past favorites include the spring Egg Hunt and Petting Zoo, the Kids Fishing Derby in June, the July 4th Parade, and Oktoberfest in the fall. Bring us a new idea — a beach gathering, a boat parade, a holiday activity, a book club — and submit the event request form with your proposed budget for Board review. You do not need to do it alone. We can connect you with other volunteers and with the Social Events Committee.

Join a committee
Committees do much of the Association's detailed work and are a lower-commitment way to contribute than a Board seat. Committee members do not need to be Board members.
- Lake Improvement Management Committee — works on the health of the lake itself: water quality, weed and algae management, shoreline condition, and the long-term projects that keep Countryside Lake usable and attractive.
- Project Approvals Committee — reviews proposed exterior changes to members' properties, from new construction and additions to garages, sheds, pools, solar, fences, docks, dredging, and landscaping or construction in the Shore Area. The committee weighs how a project fits the character of the community, advises members on Lake County and municipal requirements, and helps sort out which approvals a project actually needs. Valuable for anyone with construction, architectural, permitting, or landscaping experience — and for anyone who simply cares how the neighborhood looks.
- Social Events Committee — plans and supports the events that bring the community together throughout the year, and helps members who want to host an event of their own.
- Elections Committee — runs and manages the annual Board elections, including counting the votes. A defined, seasonal commitment rather than a year-round one.
🤝
Help at an event
Not ready to run an event, but happy to lend a hand at one? Setup and cleanup, grilling, staffing a table, taking photographs — most events need a handful of people for a couple of hours. Let us know you are willing and we will reach out when something comes up.
🌿
Care for the lake and common areas
Shoreline cleanups, invasive species removal, beach and common area upkeep, and helping with seasonal projects. This work directly affects water quality and the long-term health of the lake, and it is some of the most visible volunteering you can do here.
🛠️
Offer a skill
Legal, accounting, insurance, construction and general contracting, handyman and carpentry work, electrical, landscaping, tree work, dredging, dock and shoreline work, photography, grant writing — professional skills offered even occasionally save the Association real money and produce better outcomes. Tell us what you do and we will keep you in mind.
📅
Attend meetings and welcome new neighbors
The simplest contribution is showing up. Attending Board and annual meetings, keeping your contact information current, reading Association notices, and introducing yourself to new residents all make the community work better. None of it takes much time and all of it counts.
Not sure where you would fit?
Email us and say what interests you and roughly how much time you have. Getting in touch decides nothing — we will talk it through first, and if a role turns out to be more than you expected, you are free to step back.
